Well, after 6 insanely frustrating hours and a beautiful neck pain as reward, i have a small update about RWBY stuff.

I wasn’t happy with the models since they were my first ports. I tried to fix them several times, but couldn’t manage to do it. The last problem was blender crashing whenever i wanted to do a certain fix. I found a way to bypass that error, so i fixed the issue and… bam, success.

If you’re using the models from SFMLab, i guess you already know that there is no way to remove their clothes unless you use the $alpha attribute. I discovered a nasty surprise (besides the fact that is annoying to set $alpha on everything if you load the model xD): even if the clothes are invisible, they keep casting shadows, which forces you to adapt the lightning to avoid this issue. Technically, the clothes are “still there”.

The only true way to remove this issue is using bodygroups, since that removes the part selected. I couldn’t do this on first place because the pantyhose from Ruby was clipping with her legs no matter what. Thankfully, i managed to fix that issue today. Now i can remove the alpha attributes and set bodygroups! :D

So.. what does this mean?

Once i finish fixing Weiss and Blake, the V2.0 of these models from SFMLab will have:

  • Bodygroups to remove their clothes as you want (no more alpha :D)
  • Breast jigglebones (yay~~~)
  • Finger bones properly placed in the left arm/ right arm groups (no more time wasted searching them in the “unknown” group ^^)
  • I’ll probably remove some not working flexes. Sadly some of them (like “open Ruby’s top”, “move Blake’s bikini”) won’t work since now they’ll be part of bodygrups and flexes don’t work with them)
  • (I wonder if i should add jigglebones to their hair. Blake/Yang’s ones are not precisely pretty, but i could give it a try to see how it looks)

Unfortunately, Ambient Occlusion doesn’t work well with these models. The head looks veeeeery dark, so i’m afraid they won’t have the same quality like Ramesses or another MMD models (and sadly this removes completely the “show version” option). But.. hey, at least we won’t have weird shadows casted by invisible clothes :p

And.. as you can see in the picture above, Yang is already fixed, i didn’t have to port her again! :D (i had to remove the bandana on her left boot because the bones were broken, but…. well, i hope not much people will complain about that :p)

I still need to do a few fixes on Ruby, but after her i’ll try to fix Weiss and Blake. i’ll try to have them fixed by next Friday if i don’t find any other problem. Blake’s stockings are going to give me a headache, like Ruby’s pantyhose, but hopefully i’ll make them work :3  *crossing fingers*


And.. well, next week is christmas and all that, so… maybe i’ll be a bit slow this time (family and stuff). I want to be sure to have the models fixed before uploading the V2.0 on SFMLab, but… i’ll be working on it, promise o.o/

I’m a bit salty because the models don’t support Ambient Occlusion, but…. well, they’re more comfortable to use than before, and there is no weird shadow because $alpha *****  ^^

This video again is in 60 fps. Not sure if the change is noticeable, but i’ll try to render them with 60 instead 30 if possible :3

I tested the other models (copy & pasting the animation like a bastard) and they work fine, so i uploaded the update in SFMLab and they’re already available ^^. Go there and start doing your own animations! ò.ó/  (here is the link)
